Ingredients
- ¾ cup light brown sugar
- ¼ cup plain flour
- ¾ tsp ground cinnamon, plus more for sprinkling
- Freshly ground nutmeg, to taste
- 7 medium apples, peeled, cored and cut how you prefer your apples
- 1 lemon, zested and juiced
- 3-4 tbsp butter, diced
- Egg wash, for brushing
- Sugar, for sprinkling
- 2 Pie Crust freshly made or store bought
Directions
Step 1
In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. In a separate bowl, toss the apple slices with the lemon juice.
Step 2
Add the apples to the sugar mixture and toss until evenly coated. Set aside.
Step 3
Line a pie dish with one round of pastry.
Step 4
Spoon the apple mixture into the lined pie dish and dot with butter.
Step 5
Cut the remaining rolled dough into an even number of strips. Arrange them over the filling in a lattice pattern, weaving each strip over and under until the top is covered. Alternatively, cut festive shapes from the dough and layer them over the pie. Or use festive cookie cutter shapes and place overlapping on top.
Step 6
Trim any excess dough, crimp the edges, then brush the top with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
Step 7
Bake for 45 minutes. Let the pie rest for 20 minutes before slicing.
